i dont get the law. if you kill someone, you pay for it for your life. does that mean your life is equal to the other person's? of the same weightage/significance? if penalties are meant as deterrants, how come it still doesnt make much impact on the actions of these people? penalties are meant to be given with respect to the gravity of the crime commited. even though you have a horribly valid reason to kill someone, for example you're going to be raped and killed or something to that extent, and you kill that person while struggling, you get sent to jail. whats more important. your chastity and life or those decades of your life spent wasting away in a locked cell.
